In the next room, the Market Gate of Miletus is 30 meters wide, 16 meters tall, and 5 meters deep. This enormous gate went through a lot to get here. It was built in the 2nd century AD and destroyed in a 10th or 11th century earthquake. In the early 1900s, it was excavated and reconstructed in the museum, using a significant new material. The gate suffered damage in World War II and was worked on again in the 1950s and recently.
